What is the purpose of Cadets?
Cadets form a national organization whose purpose is to develop in youth the attributes of leadership, engaged and active citizenship and physical fitness, all within an environment that stimulates an interest in the Canadian Forces.
Why should I join Cadets?
Cadets offer you challenges, friendship and adventure! It's an opportunity to expand your own horizons, contribute to your community and make friends for life. Many former Cadets credit their participation in the program with giving them a head-start toward their successful careers.
What do Cadets do?
Cadets are teenagers like you who take part in activities at a Cadet Corps within their local community. These activities are designed to help you to become more self-confident, to develop your leadership skills, to improve your physical fitness and communication skills, and to teach you self-discipline through challenging training.
When do Cadets meet?
Cadets usually meet once a week and some weekends throughout the school year. We have regular parade nights on Monday evenings and have optional training on occasional evening and weekends. (Details will be communicated ahead of time).
Will Cadet training affect my schoolwork?
Education is very important to Cadets. Cadet training is a hands-on, activity-based program that should complement your school studies. In fact, some provincial and territorial education boards accept Cadet subjects for school credits. As well, there are several scholarships available through Cadets.
Who can join the Cadets?
What if I turn 12 later in the year?
As a requirement to join, the cadet must be past their 12th birthday, many cadets will join throughout the year. 2632 RCACC is set up for you to join at any time. When you join, please talk to the officer staff for an individual plan.
I'm past my 12th birthday, what happens?
Cadets are able to join until they reach their 19th birthday. Cadets who join later in life will be placed with cadets who are more their own age. Many cadets join at all ages. The staff will work with older cadets to catch them up.Please see the officer staff for an individual plan.
When is registration taking place?
Registrations can be accepted anytime! Follow the link to the online registration tool: Click "here"
I don't live in Halifax, can I still join your unit?
Absolutely! The majority of our cadets (and even staff) come from surrounding communities.
How much does it cost?
Army cadets do not have any registration fees. However, cadets may be asked to take part in fundraising activities that support optional programming in which his/her corps participates. The Army Cadet Program is funded by the Department of National Defence in partnership with the civilian Army Cadet League of Canada. This includes uniforms, basic training, summer camps, scholarships, and regionally directed activities.
Do I have to buy my own uniform?
No. The Canadian Forces loan complete uniforms to Cadets, including the Highland uniform and Cadets are expected to take care of it until such time as they either age out at 19 years, or leave the program.
Is a cadet required to join the military?
Absolutely not! The Cadet Program is a great way to have fun, be challenged and make friends. You also find out more about Canada and develop new skills that will be with you for life, no matter what career you choose.
What will I do at weekly meetings?
Some of the activities you can expect at your Cadet Corps include ceremonial drill, first aid, sports, and citizenship events that support your community. Many Corps even have a music program. Occasional weekend activities include biathlon, camping, map & compass and marksmanship. There will also be plenty of time to have fun and make new friends!
What are summer camps?
For those interested, Cadets have summer camps located across Canada. Cadets can go to camp for two to eight weeks on a variety of courses. Each camp offers a unique mixture of outdoor activities and valuable instruction. Attendance at Cadet Summer Camps is free. The Canadian Forces provide all transportation, meals, lodging and special equipment. Every Cadet attending summer camp receives a training allowance; Cadets in staff positions at camp receive a salary. More information available at Canada.ca

Are there travel opportunities?
Definitely! For summer training, Cadets travel to one of the many Summer Camps located in different parts of Canada. In addition, selected Cadets go on exchange trips to countries such as England, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Scotland, Wales and Italy under an international exchange program. Exchange Cadets are selected on their high standards in performance, fitness and involvement in Cadet activities.
I know that I'm going to be late or am not able to attend an event, what do I do?
When a cadet is going to be late or is unable to attend an event the cadet should do the following prior to the event:
This ensures accurate attendance can be taken. Attendance is taken into consideration for promotions, summer camp applications and scholarship nominations.
Who conducts the training for the corps?
The corps is run by a team of officers who are members of the CIC (Cadet Instructors Cadre), a special branch of the Canadian Forces Reserve. CIC officers are members of the CF Reserve who are trained specially for working with youth. Often times, these officers are themselves former members of the regular army, or past cadets. For more information about the CIC please feel free to discuss this with an officer staff member.
